The First Lady of Outlaw Country

The First Lady of Outlaw Country

Mirriam Jennings – better known as ‘70s country superstar Jessi Colter – recounts her love story with the ultimate country outlaw, her late husband, Waylon Jennings, in her memoir An Outlaw and A Lady (HarperCollins Christian Publishing, $26.99). She grew up in Mesa in the 1940s-1950s, and her words will make you fall in love with the “magical land” of Arizona. The book focuses on her life with Jennings from the moment they met to his passing in 2002. She touches on their life in Tennessee, being a mother, helping her husband get sober and the value of friendship. Her faith in God is a recurring theme, guiding her through good times and bad, but it’s her trademark blend of creativity, patience and compassion that will bring smiles – and occasional tears – to readers’ faces.
